Our Exams, Certificates & Diplomas for children attending our full year classes:

A1:

– At the GLS the A1 exam is usually written in Grade 4, depending on the skill level of the student.

– This exam certifies that candidates have acquired very basic language skills.

Passing the exam demonstrates that you can …

  • ask and reply to simple questions as well as make and respond to requests,
  • write about yourself and others using simple expressions and sentences,
  • understand conversations and texts about familiar topics.

Ideal if you’d like to …

  • take a German exam for children and young people between 10 and 16 years of age
  • demonstrate that you have a very basic knowledge of German
  • be issued with a certificate of a German Language Assessment (Sternespiel)

A2:

– At the GLS the A2 exam is usually written in Grade 6, depending on the skill level of the student, and in Grade 8 if needed by those students who did not write the exam yet in Grade 6.

– This exam certifies that candidates have acquired basic language skills.

Passing the exam demonstrates that you can …

  • understand and use sentences and common expressions in everyday situations,
  • make yourself understood in simple, routine situations requiring an exchange of information on familiar and common topics,
  • describe your background and education, immediate surroundings and other matters associated with your immediate needs, in a simple way.

Ideal if you’d like to …

  • take a German exam designed for young people between the ages of 12 and 16
  • demonstrate that you have a basic knowledge of German
  • be issued with a certificate of a German Language Assessment

DSD 1 (B1):

DSD = Deutsches Sprachdiplom/German Language Diploma (internationally recognized)

– At the GLS the DSD 1 exam is usually written in Grade 9, depending on the skill level of the student.

– At the GLS the student minimum age is 14 years old

– This exam certifies that candidates are independent users of the German language.

Passing the exam demonstrates that you can …

  • understand the main points of information in conversations and texts on familiar matters relating to work, school and leisure time, etc. when clear, standard language is used,
  • deal with most situations typically encountered when travelling in German-speaking countries,
  • express yourself simply and coherently when talking about familiar topics and areas of personal interest,
  • report on experiences and events, describe dreams, hopes and ambitions as well as make short statements and explanations.

Ideal if you’d like to …

  • attend a preparatory course (Studienkolleg) to qualify for admission to a University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule) in Germany
  • live and work in Germany
  • be issued with an official and internationally recognized certificate

DSD 2 (B2/C1):

DSD = Deutsches Sprachdiplom/German Language Diploma (internationally recognized)

– At the GLS the DSD 2 exam is usually written in Grade 11 or 12, depending on the skill level of the student.

– At the GLS the student minimum age is 16 years old

– This exam certifies that candidates have acquired advanced language skills.

Passing the exam demonstrates that you can …

  • understand the main contents of complex texts on concrete and abstract topics, as well as technical discussions in your own area of specialization,
  • communicate so spontaneously and fluently that a normal conversation with native speakers is readily possible without a great deal of effort on either side,
  • express your opinion on current issues in a clear and detailed manner, explain your position on a current issue and state the benefits and drawbacks of various options.

  • to qualify for admission to university in Germany
  • demonstrate an advanced knowledge of German for employment purposes
  • prepare to work in the medical sector
  • be issued with an official and internationally recognized certificate
